Brown & Riding launches national agribusiness wholesale practice
By Insurance Wire Staff, . Insurance Wire.
Dallas-based wholesale brokerage Brown & Riding has launched a national Agribusiness Practice, according to reporting by both Business Insurance and Insurance Journal. The new specialty unit is designed to help retail agents place customized coverage for clients across the full agricultural supply chain.
David Chipp, a senior vice president based in Los Angeles, will lead the practice, supported by what Insurance Journal described as a team of product line specialists with deep technical expertise and market access. Business Insurance confirmed Chipp's title and location.
The practice will broker property, casualty, and management and professional liability coverages, Business Insurance reported. Insurance Journal provided a more detailed list of target risk classes, including custom farming operations, dairies, nut growers, premises with liquor exposures, seed and grain processing mills, poultry and meat producers, processing and storage facilities, agricultural machinery manufacturers and rental operations, ground and aerial chemical applicators, and logistics and transportation of agricultural products.
The two outlets agree on the core facts; Insurance Journal's account is the more granular of the two on the scope of risks the practice intends to serve.
The launch reflects a broader pattern of wholesale brokers building out named specialty practices rather than handling niche risks through generalist desks. Agribusiness sits at an intersection of property-heavy exposures, complex liability profiles, and supply-chain concentration risk that generalist retail agents often struggle to place without specialist support. A dedicated wholesale practice with direct market access and technical staff addresses exactly that gap.
What the reporting does not establish is which carriers Brown & Riding has lined up for the practice, what premium volume it is targeting, or whether the launch involved any acquisitions or hires beyond Chipp's appointment to lead the unit. Retail agents active in agricultural accounts will want to confirm the practice's current market panel and appetite before routing submissions.
