Hiscox Capital Partners names Michel Dang Portfolio Manager as ILS AUM hits $2.9bn
By Insurance Wire Staff, . Insurance Wire.
Hiscox Capital Partners has appointed Michel Dang as Portfolio Manager, according to Artemis, which broke the news. Dang, based in London, joined the unit this month.
Hiscox Capital Partners is the division of Hiscox Re, the reinsurance arm of Hiscox Group, that manages third-party capital across insurance-linked securities (ILS) investments and quota-share partnerships. ILS are financial instruments that transfer insurance risk to capital markets investors, with catastrophe bonds being the most common form. Artemis reported in February that Hiscox Re launched the unit as a standalone business to consolidate capital partnership activity the group has managed for nearly two decades.
Dang's most recent role, according to Artemis, was Investment Analyst at SCOR Investment Partners, the asset management arm of French reinsurer SCOR, which also runs a range of ILS funds. He arrived at SCOR Investment Partners following its acquisition of Coriolis Capital Limited, an ILS asset manager where Dang had worked since 2018. Artemis reported that the Coriolis acquisition closed in late 2019. Before Coriolis, Dang spent two years at consultancy Dar Al-Handasah as a Financial Modeler, working on investment, securitization, pricing and other financial models. He also held an intern analyst role at BNP Paribas Investment Partners, now BNP Paribas Asset Management.
Artemis also reported that Hiscox Capital Partners grew its overall ILS assets under management to $2.9 billion as of 1 July 2026, though the report did not provide a prior-period figure for direct comparison.
The timing is worth noting. Hiscox Capital Partners is a relatively new organisational structure, having been formalised only this year, and the Dang appointment is an early signal of how the unit intends to build out its investment management function. Bringing in someone with both buy-side ILS portfolio experience at Coriolis and analytical depth from SCOR Investment Partners fits the profile of a manager looking to sharpen its capital deployment discipline rather than simply grow headcount. No official reports establish whether this is the first dedicated Portfolio Manager hire for the unit or one of several, nor do they detail the specific mandates Dang will oversee.
