Assurity adds critical illness product targeting ACA agency channel

Assurity has entered the simplified-issue critical illness market with a product built around the ACA agency distribution channel, according to Coverager. The carrier is targeting brokers who already sell major medical plans and want a supplemental product that fits the same client conversation without adding underwriting friction.
As Coverager reported, the product covers four conditions: cancer, heart attack, stroke and advanced Alzheimer's disease. Benefit amounts run from $5,000 to $50,000, and the application asks five health questions. Benefits do not decrease with age, and coverage can run from a one-year term to age 70. Monthly benefits reach up to $30,000. Eligible foreign residents can also apply, which broadens the addressable market beyond standard domestic individual health buyers.
UnYoung Botelho, Executive Vice President of Individual Sales and National Accounts at Assurity, framed the launch in explicitly commercial terms for the agency channel. "Our new Quick Issue Critical Illness Insurance gives agencies a new way to increase per-client revenue while delivering meaningful value to clients," she said, as quoted by Coverager. "We built this product to fit naturally into your existing process and expand sales, backed by a streamlined application experience."
The distribution logic here is straightforward. ACA plan sales are transactional and high-volume, but the per-client revenue ceiling is low. A supplemental critical illness product with a five-question application and a digital platform can be layered onto an existing sale without materially extending the process. For agencies, that is a revenue-per-appointment argument, not a new prospecting effort.
The product's flat benefit structure, meaning benefits do not erode as policyholders age through the coverage period, is a meaningful design choice. It removes a common objection in the critical illness category, where clients sometimes balk at products that pay less precisely when the risk of a qualifying event is rising.
What the Coverager report does not establish is how Assurity's pricing compares to existing simplified-issue critical illness products in the market, which states the product is approved in, or what the underwriting decline rate looks like at five health questions. Those details matter to brokers evaluating whether the product will actually close at the point of sale. Assurity has not publicly released that information, and no other trade outlet had covered the launch at the time of writing.
Brokers working the ACA channel and agencies building out supplemental product portfolios should review the FastTrack platform eligibility requirements and confirm state availability before adding the product to their sales process.
